New Partner TATLI to Raise Awareness about Human Trafficking in Tanzania
In recent years, Tanzania has recorded an increase in human trafficking crimes. Even though significant improvements have been made to combat these crimes, the nation continues to fall behind the required standards for the elimination of trafficking. As the government lacks a coordinated data collection system, many human trafficking crimes continue to go unreported. Therefore, engaging in and enhancing local and national action is critical to combat human trafficking.
For this reason, we’ve partnered with the Tanzanian organization TATLI, which fights against human trafficking by providing people with legal aid and assistance. TATLI will use three of THE WHY’s films to do this - Even When I Fall, which tells the story of two trafficking survivors who were sold as children to an Indian circus, Selling Children which also depicts the reality of child trafficking in India and The Rescue List which tells the story of two boys who escape slavery in Ghana and the rescuer’s mission to liberate more children.
In cooperation with THE WHY, TATLI aims to further work towards combating human trafficking by reaching an even wider audience through the use of documentary film screenings. These screenings aim to primarily target students, community members, civil society actors and decision-makers in both rural and urban areas.
The overall goal of the screenings is to educate audience members on important human rights issues - particularly marginalised communities which are often affected most - in order to support inclusive development and inspire collective action.
